What is the Corporate Council?

The Society of Family Planning Corporate Council provides an opportunity for meaningful collaboration between Society Board members and private industry partners.

Corporate Council members share a collective vision of advancing just and equitable abortion and contraception informed by science. To advance this shared vision, the Corporate Council integrates insights from private industry on product development and regulatory challenges with the expertise of Society leaders on emerging research and practice trends and the needs of family planning clinicians.

Frequently asked questions

What value does the Corporate Council offer to private industry members?

In addition to connections with leading family planning experts, joining the Society Corporate Council fosters collaborations with others in the supply chain. Members gain public recognition as trusted Society partners, with acknowledgment on our website, in the Society newsletter, and the Contraception journal. Corporate Council dues may be tax-deductible. Additionally, the Council provides opportunities to connect with premier clinical research sites and offer non-accredited educational programming.

How is the Corporate Council different from sponsoring or exhibiting at the Society’s Annual Meeting?

There are several opportunities for private industry partners to support the Society to advance our vision. Uniquely, the Corporate Council enables industry partners and leading experts in family planning research and clinical practice to connect directly and deepen engagement across the supply chain. Council members are invited to attend our annual Corporate Council luncheon and forge ongoing connection with their Board liaison throughout the year.

Sponsoring and exhibiting at the Annual Meeting are opportunities to bring awareness of innovative and established products and services to the Society community. How is the Corporate Council different from sponsoring a funding opportunity with Society?

The Society welcomes partnerships with private industry partners to support research primed for impact. These partnerships are distinct from the Corporate Council, reflect a gap in the evidence, result in the development of a competitive funding opportunity, and include a review of funding recommendations from the Society’s peer-review process, through which all of its grants are awarded. Learn more about the Society’s approach to grantmaking.

Will the private industry members of the Corporate Council impact the Society’s programs and governance?

While private industry insights may inform our understanding, all decisions, including those related to organizational governance, strategy, program development and implementation, and grant funding are the sole, independent responsibility of Society Board members and staff.
