National findings

Since 2022, telehealth has made up a growing share of clinician-provided abortions in the US. In 2025 there were over 1.1 million clinician-provided abortions. Of these, nearly 300,000 were provided via telehealth.

An estimated 28% of abortions were provided via telehealth in December 2025.

Variation by policy environment

Where telehealth abortion is permitted, telehealth accounted for up to 40% of abortions in 2025, with the highest proportions in Ohio, Hawaii, Nevada, and Delaware.

Shield laws facilitate abortion access in states with total bans, where in-person care is nearly non-existent. In 2025, telehealth accounted for 97%–100% of abortions in states with total abortion bans.
