The Society is alarmed by the administration’s actions to deny funding to vital Title X providers, threatening to leverage a blow to the only federal grant program dedicated to providing low-income people with family planning and preventive health services.

The administration’s actions to undercut the Title X program come as the US Supreme Court considers a case that could allow states to deny Medicaid-insured people access to the family planning providers of their choice, threatening to further destabilize our country’s public health infrastructure. Research has documented that when states undermine funding for essential family planning programs, it places untenable strain on an already overburdened contraceptive safety net system.

The Society is also alarmed that the administration’s attack on Title X providers is yet another action to censor and punish diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts seeking to address health inequities, from threatening investments in research that make communities safer to blocking timely and evidence-informed, person-centered care to low-income, uninsured, and historically marginalized populations. The Society has been clear: DEI strategies are critical to addressing racism, bias, and structural determinants of health that contribute to unequal healthcare outcomes.
